You might have read a lot about anti spywares online. Several software options claim to help you in this regard. They come as free or paid downloads online. Some of them also claim to make your computer perform faster and better. However, they hardly are interested in telling why one needs there program. So let us first understand what is spyware?

Spyware is something like a spy that is set in your computer system right from the day you get it. Technically, it is a malware. It is a program that quietly keeps storing all your personal information and stores it secretly. It includes anything and everything that you do with the computer. It stores the programs that you have run and what did you do with them. It known the files forms and the changes made. Even if you delete a certain file, it stays on in a way through the spyware.

Next, coming to the online part, spyware secretly stores all the web pages that you open. It also keeps the information intact as to what information you fill in the online forms, like your user name, company name, address, contact numbers, bank details, email ids, passwords, etc. even if you delete the history, with spyware your computer always has a record of what websites you have opened.
Now, why this thing is planted in the computers and why do we need to remove spyware?

The employers and the multinational companies plant this in the computers to keep a watch on their employees. The employees would then feel scared in wasting time on the chat sites or downloading unwanted stuff. This is especially important for the legal & tax authorities. For the domestic systems, it is useful to keep a watch on your teenage kids.

Now, knowing all this why do we need spyware removal. <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/removing-spyware"title="" >Removing spyware becomes necessary if it makes the computer slow. It happens when the data in this malware is overloaded with information and uses most part of the memory, which is RAM and ROM. This at times leads to some hazardous viruses and Trojans as well. If you do not take remedial steps in time, it might crash the computer. However, it is very rare. This actually depends on the user, because if you are clicking on some infected websites, there are chances for this sort of mishap.

People see it as a boon as well. In case your computer crashes for any other reason, this malware would help you get the lost information. Nevertheless, this is one in a thousand cases.

In order to keep the privacy intact most of users want to get rid of this unwanted malware. Spyware removal is possible if you use some good software for the same. Here, you must know that the Internet is flooded with websites that claim to help you in this regard and they offer free downloadable programs for the same. You must never trust just any random name. Always see that you use a legitimate program. Else, it could be very dangerous for your computer. It will acquire a lot of memory and may cause some Trojans as well.

For best spyware removal, you should contact a trained software professional and seek for their advice. Usually they would tell you to load programs like Norton, Mc Cafe or Quick Heal. These companies have been aces in their fields. Identifying the changing market needs as the virus makers are advancing, these brands and other legitimate ones just like them are upgrading their systems and they are making newer developments to help the users across the globe.

Spyware is and is not against the law. How so? On the one hand, U.S. states and the federal government alike have passed anti-spyware laws—federal law in fact prohibits it. On the other hand, alas, when you sign the user agreements for many software applications, there is some fine print therein that grants agreement that the software company in question can load any program they like or glean any information they like through various software.

Since most users just click the agreement without troubling to read the language, spyware makers can claim plausibly enough that the agreement equals a binding contract of consent. That does not mean you are powerless to <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/stop-spyware"title="" >stop spyware. The Electronic Communications Privacy Act makes it illegal for any company to violate your personal information security; the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act covers unauthorized software installations. Other than actually taking the time to read the fine print of the user agreements, you have plenty of ways available to remove the spyware and keep it removed, no matter how difficult it may be to enforce anti-spyware laws or prosecute purported violators.

You do not even have to pay for basic protection—two of the most familiar and popular anti-spyware programs on the Internet are free. Nevertheless, how good are these programs really? Possibly the most popular of the two is Spybot Search and Destroy, which has been in cyberspace for over a decade. It was and remains designed to catch and kill numerous spyware/adware files and modules, clean program and Web usage tracks from a computer, and—if you happen to be rather advanced—it lets you fix registry inconsistencies tied to a large number of malware installations.

The plus side includes that Spybot’s newest version, 1.6.2, is an update that includes support for Opera releases and the relatively new Google Chrome Internet browser, and technology reviewers note frequently that the new Spybot has improved support for quick user switching while running the program.

However, Spybot continues to have problems first spotted in the application a few years ago, including what CNET.com calls a tendency to lock up at times—even during the installation process, where the site’s editors said they found a number of errors just loading up the new version for review. In addition, Spybot continues having issues with flagging as spyware programs that have nothing to do with it.

Ad-Aware is one of the oldest anti-spyware/malware programs among the free applications, and it continues to be a solid and, many say, superior Spybot competitor. The newest version, released in October 2009, is considered to have built well upon improvements in version 8, and now includes faster installation, addressing a longtime user complaint that often drove those users away from the program entirely. It also loads up faster when you boot your computer up and performs far faster scans than earlier versions performed.

Perhaps most significant, Ad-Aware has improved its behavioral-detection engine, meaning you will not be seeing non-spyware/malware files flagged as spyware or malware falsely. The new engine, Genotype, uses a one-pass scan and lets a user contribute data anonymously.

As before, however, the free version lacks an anti-virus engine and the capability to scan networked drives is not in the free version. Nor can you use Ad-Aware’s scan scheduler in the freeware version. This may or may not move you to open the checkbook to buy the full version, but for a freeware anti-spyware program that reviewers believe remains very constricted in the free version Ad-Aware seems to remain the best-regarded free anti-spyware program online. Like Spybot, moreover, Ad-Aware is very good at trapping and isolating trojans and at detecting newer and more sophisticated cyber pests.

Another free anti-spyware/adware program is Microsoft’s Windows Defender. It was once considered maybe the best of the breed—CNET thought so in 2007—but the program has flaws enough. It has never been accused of providing false positives on non-malware applications, and it is thought to provide adequate and sometimes above-average protection against most spyware, adware, and browser-hijack pests. However, reviewers often found it lacking for detecting trojans or worms and ineffective almost entirely against emergent new infections despite using heuristics.

Defender was also praised for the depth of its Quick and Full scan options, but reviewers saw a glaring difference between the running time of Quick Scan (three minutes) and Full Scan (a full hour). Defender was also considered a quick and simple installation for users with genuine copies of Windows, but those who had secondhand copies or counterfeits found it difficult if not impossible to load it.

For the most part, however, reviewers have thought Defender very viable on condition that a user has a solid antivirus program or security suite, since the program’s inability to detect newer or more sophisticated worms or viruses make it a difficult pitch as a stand-alone anti-spyware/malware program.

Computers and laptops are often used in schools. Eventually each child will likely have one at their desk and perform most of their work on it. Benefits of this include the opportunity for equal access to the same education for all children, more mobility and increased awareness beyond their home and school, ability to promote individual creativity and collaboration between students and with the teachers. In the future, there may be student-driven learning where students themselves individualize education instructs and teachers are there to guide the process. Computer-aided learning prepares the children for the future. We are in a global economy. We need to be able to access and use information in an electronic way to be successful.

The <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/school-proxy "title="" >school proxy server is designed to keep the students minds and concentration on their assigned projects. Access to the Internet is routed from the sending computer to another computer, which is the server to the Internet site. This server, also known as a proxy, then accepts the order and opens a portal to the web site desired or refuses to allow passage. School administrators set the guidelines for the uses of these computers and laptops at school.

School computers are tightly monitored. Before gaining access, students are educated on allowable and non-allowable uses. If the students violate these rules, they could face suspension, loses of computer privileges or any other punishment administration had stipulated. The education opportunities afforded by these modern marvels also created hazards which young people need to be sheltered from.

This server can be programmed to use a filter system that eliminates any sites that contain certain words or phrases. This server can also refuse access to a blocked web site address, many web site addresses or any web site address. The server is a filter that allows only the access to go through it that it is programmed to. When a website address is typed in, the server checks the information requested against its filtering rules.

The server performs a number of functions. The server increases the speed of logging onto the Interned and access to the requested information by using a cache system. This same server keeps a log of work done and the web sites visited and can audit these when requested. This also scans transmitted content for malware before allowing delivery to the requesting computer and scans outbound content for things like data leak protection. The server automatically performs a number of functions and can be programmed to do much more.

<a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/school-proxy "title="" >School proxy bypass can be done by reaching another proxy server called a gateway. Typing in the new proxy server’s address does this. Once the new proxy server is reached, the gateway has no restriction, blocks or filters. All the old filters or blocks are removed from the computer search. The old proxy performed its service; the address used was an acceptable address. A user can go anywhere on the Internet without restriction. Schools constantly monitor the on-line addresses and continually update the blocked addresses of these gateways. Likewise, gateways are constantly being created, discovered and used.

Schools routinely attempt to limit access to the Internet and the contents contained on the Internet on the schools computers used by students. There are ways to bypass these filters by using a gateway, students search for and find these links. Students expend a huge amount of energy and intellectual power outsmarting and trying to outsmart the restrictions placed on them and the computer system. This is a constant battle of wits between the school administrators and the students. Maybe this is really just another step in the students’ education on the use of a computer and how to access information and use it to their benefit.

Chances are that, if you use the internet regularly, you are probably familiar with spyware, as well as the resultant programs that are meant to seek out any adware or spyware and clean it from your computer system. There are many different programs that offer to perform this task; some are freeware while others cost something. <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/adware-alert"title="" >Adware Alert is a program that offers two level protection. You can get a free scan online, and then you must decide whether or not to invest in the program itself.

Spyware is everywhere on the internet, and if you have ever downloaded anything online you have possibly inadvertently put your compute at risk from spyware. Spyware will cause your computer to do things such as display unwanted pop-up ads, change your browser’s start-up page, or even record your keystrokes or important information, like your passwords and credit card information.

Anti-spyware programs, such as Adware Alert, have been designed to recognize any spyware on your computer by comparing its signature code against a large database of all known signatures that it can reference. If it finds that you do have a spyware program installed it offers to either delete or isolate it so that it cannot harm your computer.

Not everyone is very keen on installing anti-spyware programs on their computers. Sometimes these very anti-spyware programs themselves will alert your anti-virus program, for example, that they are actually a risk to your computer especially when they ask you to accept and download a program. There is some debate about whether anti-spyware programs such as Adware Alert are really worth installing, and even if they may actually put your computer at risk. While Adware Alert is one of the more popular anti-spyware programs currently being offered on the internet, it also has its fair share of critics.

A few years back, Adware Alert was indeed listed on the Spyware Warrior forum as a rogue-suspect anti-spyware program. People were concerned that it was listing false positive infections of spyware. It also was not very forthcoming with either information about the company itself or its own privacy practices. However, more recently a newer version of Adware Alert was released with a new database of definitions. Since the revised update, it has no longer been listed as rogue-suspect anti-spyware.

The latest version of Adware Alert met with mixed results. Many Adware reviews were of the same opinion, that while the program had excellent results when it scanned and cleaned computers from spy-ware, it did not do as good of a job as other anti-spyware programs when it came to providing real time protection.

Another con with Adware Alert, which is another problem that cause people not to want to install the program, is because of the way it sometimes attaches itself to your computer. An unregistered version has been known to piggy-back along with a Trojan that installs itself on computers. Once it is on your computer, it will start up a free system scan and then eventually report a long list of spyware that your computer is infected with. However, in order to remove the spyware, as it suggests doing, it will ask you to first register the full version of Adware Alert, which will cost money.

The problem with anti-spyware programs, such as Adware Alert, is that once installed they can be very difficult to uninstall. Therefore, if you are unhappy with Adware Alert, or you would like to uninstall it and try another program, you may have some difficulty in completely clearing it from your system. That in itself is also another negative mark against the program.

Here are simple step-by-step instructions that will help you eliminate all traces of Adware Alert from your computer, should you wish to do so.

•	Close all of your programs. Back up your computer.
•	Block the site AdwareAlert.com
•	Uninstall Adware Alert. This will differ, depending on which version of Windows you are using. Commonly you would go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs or if you are using Vista: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
•	If the program does not show up in your “Programs and Features” section, as a program that can be uninstalled, search for the Adware Alert program directory. The two files inside the directory to delete are ” AdwareAlert.exe” and “Setup.exe”
•	Delete registry entries that refer to the Adware Alert program. Typically these are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallAdwareAlert and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun “Adware Alert”
•	Reboot your System.

If you are not comfortable manually deleting the Adware Alert program, there are quite a few Adware Alert Free Scanner and Remover programs online, that will do the job for you. If you want to find a program that will get rid of Adware Alert for you, make sure that you find one that is compatible with the operating system you are running before you go ahead and run the program.

Whether you are a student, a homemaker or a busy executive, whether you work for a real profit making company or a nonprofit organization, you should take the time to learn about the <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/proxy-browser"title="" >proxy browser. If you worry that someone who oversees your computer use might learn about your interest in the proxy web browser, then you have proof that you could make good use of access to such a browser.
The proxy browser helps an Internet user to surf the World Wide Web in total security. If that Internet user is at work, then the browser allows that Internet viewer to get through, undetected, the company’s firewall. When used at school, proxy browsers allow students to block the firewall ordered by their school district.

How a Student Can Benefit from Using a Browser

As the student makes use of the proxy server, that software helps the student to retrieve and store web pages. The school cannot trace a student’s attempt to obtain with ease information that might later be copied and used in a school report. The person who uses a proxy server can never be traced.

The student that is strapped for cash can go to a website such as proxybrowsing.com, which provides the Web surfer with access to a free proxy browser. A student or adult that is ready to fork over a few extra dollars can purchase a proxy browser that comes with special features.

Browsers with Special Features

This website offers the browser named “Internet Cloak.” That fast proxy allows its user to remain anonymous. Armed with the “Cloak,” a writer can research an article on guns without worrying about future emails from gun dealers.

The same website also sells the Greek proxy. It allows the user to both unlock the Internet and remain anonymous. The person who wants a more complete block-bypassing tool needs to get the Bypass proxy. The person who buys the Bypass proxy can plan to enjoy Facebook and MySpace while using a work computer.

Even the person with a home office should learn about online proxy browsers. That home office worker would have good reason to buy a PH proxy. The software at that proxy site strips off with great speed the code that can compromise a computer’s security. In fact, anyone who downloads music and movies should consider getting a PH proxy. A virus can often sneak into a computer, if material has been downloaded from a less than trustworthy website.

Some proxy browsers have other features, in addition to those mentioned in the foregoing paragraphs. Businesses and nonprofit organizations would do well to examine those features. They can do so with ease by going to www.myproxybrowser.com. This website has information on content filtering for businesses. It also offers useful advice on filtering consultants for network organizations.

How the Executive Should View the Proxy Browser

The executive that devotes some extra time to looking at myproxybrowser.com stands a better chance of getting a step ahead of any competitor. Of course, that same executive must also worry about the lazy worker who does not harbor great aspirations. Such a worker can harm a company by surfing the Internet from the office computer.

For example, such a worker might decide to get a Public Proxy Browser. Then any efforts made by a company to trace that employee’s attention to sites that bear no relation to his or her work would become virtually useless. Armed with the Public Proxy Browser, that same employee could check out MySpace, Facebook, Orkut, H15, Bebo, Friendster and other social networking sites.

The abilities inherent in the Public Proxy Browser would allow that less than conscientious employee to stay anonymous while carrying out his or her elicit Internet use. The availability of such proxy browsers forces the business executive to stay updated on computer related advances. At the same time, that executive should use updated technology to filter the content that is coming into and coming out of the company computer.

Is a New Type of Browser Needed?

Recent news suggests that the head of a firm selling health insurance could face an especially difficult problem. The head of such a firm does not want employees to waste their time looking at the news from their own Facebook friends. By the same token, that executive could well encourage employees to examine the Facebook pages of those who have purchased one of the company’s health insurance policies. That executive would thus need a proxy browser that has not yet been developed.

Maybe an enterprising software developer is ready to work on a new type of browser, one that could be offered as a Minimum Value Product. Maybe this article has motivated one daring computer geek to get busy on that most ambitious project.

Spyware is a constant and real threat to computer users around the world. Having an understanding of, and being able to <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/detect-spyware"title="" >detect spyware, is a skill that every person that owns a computer should have. The term spyware usually refers to software that is installed on your computer without your knowledge and runs in the background quietly gathering information about your computer files, login passwords and online activities. Usually the software will then send the information that it gathers to a third party, once again without your knowledge. Although laws have been passed in the United States regarding the illegalities of spyware, it still remains a prevalent problem across the country.

The proliferation of spyware amongst PC users is in a large part due to Internet Explorer, and its use of Active X components. Users have become so used to installing these components as a part of their regular web browsing routine, that they no longer question what these components are, or what sort of damage they may do. This means that anyone who is not knowledgeable about spyware detection and removal is under threat.

Active X installation isn’t the only way that spyware can be introduced to your system, however. Another very common trick is that the software “piggy backs” itself on top of a legitimate application. This is especially so for peer to peer file sharing programs, where the computer user will willingly agree to the installation of third party products in order to use the free software. It is these third party products that then quietly run in the background, starting as part of the Windows startup routine, and gather information throughout the day.

The functionality of spyware is not limited to the gathering of information, however. It is common for these programs to use that information to change the user’s homepage on their browser, and display pop up advertisements at random intervals, based on the users surfing habits. Suffering from pop up windows and modified homepages is the best case scenario, unfortunately. Much worse is the spyware that reports back to its owner with all of your private information, including bank account logins and passwords, email history, and all sorts of other personal information. Identity theft is as much of a problem now as it was years ago, although most financial institutions have gone to great lengths to minimize the risk of spyware being able to obtain this information.

The easiest way to know if your computer has been infected is to use spyware detection software, but there are some tell tale signs that you should always be on the look out for as well. More often than not, if spyware has been installed on your machine, you will notice a decrease in performance on your computer. Programs may take longer to load than usual, and websites may hang while browsing because of increased network activity. The installation of one spyware program on your machine makes it more likely that you will end up with more, as the spyware will quite often lower your computers defences by disabling firewalls and anti virus software. Once a computer is infected with multiple types of spyware, it can become extremely difficult to clean up, and many users go to the extreme of buying a new computer because their old one has slowed down so much. Unfortunately, in the long run, their new computer is going to follow the same fate unless they start taking some preventative measures. Even the best netbooks are not immune from spyware. In reality, the most extreme measure that needs to be taken is a format of the hard drive and reinstallation of all the software, but the majority of computer users do not know how to perform this task, and assume, quite often rightly, that hiring a professional to clean their systems will cost them as much as buying a new computer.

As always, the best cure is prevention, and there are steps that you can take that will greatly minimize your risk of succumbing to spyware. First and foremost, keep your web browser up to date. If you absolutely must use Internet Explorer, make sure that automatic updates are turned on so that you receive updates as they are released. New spyware is introduced every day, and the updates are designed to close security holes that are found by these programs. Even better, ditch IE completely and treat yourself to an installation of Firefox or Google Chrome. It will take you a couple of days to get used to a new browser, but your computer will be a lot safer as a result.

As far as software is concerned, there are three main players that are considered the best spyware detection software. These are Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Microsoft’s own Malicious Software Removal Tool. The best thing that you can do is install all three of these programs, run a full system scan on your machine with each one, rebooting between scans, and then allow them to automatically update whenever they need to and leave them running in the background constantly. These programs are the only sure fire way you are going to eliminate spyware from your computer completely. Any spyware wanting access to your personal life is going to have a very hard time getting past these defences.

A few months ago, Microsoft unveiled a new Beta software package called “Microsoft Security Essentials”. Up until now, Microsoft has had a package called Windows Live Onecare, that has performed a similar task for the home computer user. Onecare was a lot more involved, however, giving the added options of firewall, automated backup of data and a tuning toolkit for Windows. This package has since been discontinued, however MSE has been in beta for a while now. Finally, Microsoft has announced that their new <a href="http://www.chrissoftware.com/ms-antivirus"title="" >MS Antivirus will be available this Tuesday for download by the general public.

Microsoft Security Essentials (also known as “Morro”) is basically an antivirus software that helps protect computers against trojans, spyware and other nasties. It has to date been rolled out to around 70,000 people for testing, and is apparently due fro release within the next few days. It is believed that the software has very little resource needs, which will make it the perfect antivirus solution for people with netbooks and older computers, however the microsoft antivirus software will need at least Windows XP to run properly.

The other software package that Windows users may be familiar with is Windows Defender. After installing Microsoft Security Essentials, it will disable Windows Defender as part of its setup routine. the reason for this is that MSE offers the spyware and adware protection that comes with Defender, as well as added protection against viruses and trojans, making Windows Defender obsolete. It is beleived that MSE will be available for free download towards the end of September. The installation procedure will run a check to ensure that the user has a validated version of Windows installed, and will automatically update virus definitions via Windows Update up to three times a day.

Because the software has been developed in house by Microsoft, it can link up with native Windows functionality such as System Restore. If the program finds a suspected virus, it will firstly ask the user what action they wish to take. Before the selected action is taken, Microsoft Security Essentials will create a restore point using System Restore.

Unfortunately there is going to be a lot of confusion surrounding this release, thanks to a particular virus that purports to do a similar job to Microsoft Security Essentials (that is, protect your computer against viruses), however, this program is itself a virus, and calls itself “MS Antivirus”. If you are interested in installing Microsofts new release, it is important that you do so from the official download location on Microsofts own website to ensure you are getting what you bargained for. To make it even worse, there are many different names that this malware goes by, including XP Antivirus, Antivirus Pro, Winweb Security 2008, AntiVirus 2009, and many many more. The malware will not cause any harmful damage to your computer, but after you are infected, you will receive continuous messages warning you that you have viruses on your computer, and recommending that you purchase and install software to get rid of it.

It is easy to forget just how many computer users out there blindly trust in the messages that they receive from their PC’s. If you start to receive popups of these sorts, then it is imperative that you get yourself a decent antivirus program, and by installing microsoft free antivirus package, you know that you are getting something that is trusted in the industry and will be constantly updated as new threats arrive. People that were lucky enough to sign up for the beta program last last year have reported nothing but good things about this package, claiming that it has an easy to use interface and is very low on system resource usage. The average full system scan performed by MSE takes about half and hour to forty five minutes, which is a lot less than some other antivirus software packages out there. Many people are saying that this is the best anti virus software you could install. If you have automatic updates turned off in Windows, you may want to check your settings after installing microsoft free antivirus software, as there have been reports of it changing these settings back to automatic after installation.
